We specialize in dual language and multicultural children's books. Our mission is to help children learning different languages and cultures.
This venture was born from the company owners' own desire to give their child the wonderful gift of being bilingual in Chinese and English. They visited many local bookstores and were disappointed with the variety, quality, and price of the books. They searched the Internet and were unable to locate Canadian sites that specialized in bilingual children's books. There were some United States based web sites that offered bilingual books. However when one took into account the exchange rate and delivery and customs charges, the cost for these books were even more expensive than the limited supply in Canada. Visits to many local libraries proved equally fruitless. The only alternative was to have a relative or friend who was visiting Hong Kong bring books back with them. Discussions with other parents from different cultural backgrounds led the owners to realize that their problem was not unique.
After some in-depth research, the owners concluded that parents in Canada - a multicultural country - would like their children to learn their native languages and culture but are hampered by the limited resources available. So the owners created YouAreSpecial.com™ to help solve this problem. They wanted a business that offered high quality items and service, at a fair price, with which they would be proud to be associated.
